Jubo Mohila League leader Monalisa remanded in Wadud killing case

DHAKA, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed Jubo Mohila League vice-president Syeda Monalisa Islam on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of trader Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market area during 2024 July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Zunayed passed the order after holding a hearing on a police plea for placing her on a seven-day remand.

Monalisa, also the wife of former Public Administration minister Farhad Hossain, was shown arrested in the case on August 12. She was arrested on February 16, 2025.

According to the case documents, Wadud was shot and killed in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station on July 19, 2024. His brother-in-law Abdur Rob filed the case against 130 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.
