SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 08, 2026 (BSS) - Social Welfare Minister Prof. Dr. Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain today said the government is making efforts to keep the workplaces of husbands and wives closer to each other, preferably in the same place, city or upazila.

He made the statement in Parliament while replying to a call attention-notice on a matter of urgent public importance under Rule 71 raised by opposition lawmaker Mardia Mumtaz from reserved women’s seat in the Jatiya Sangsad today.

The minister said 64 day-care centres currently operate in Dhaka and different parts of the country under the Department of Women Affairs.

Of these, 44 centres are already operating under the department, while 20 more centres are being operated in different regions, he said.

Zahid Hossain said the government continues work to establish another 60 day-care centres across the country.

He said the existing centres provide daytime care for 4,050 children aged between 15 days and six years during their mothers’ office hours, from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

The minister also said 53 childcare centres currently have breastfeeding facilities for working mothers.

“Activities to set up another 11 breastfeeding centres are already at the final stage,” he said, adding that another 12 centres would be established within a short time.

“Thus, breastfeeding facilities will be ensured at all 64 day-care centres,” he added.
