KUSHTIA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - A man was killed in a road accident while returning to Kushtia from Magura to attend the funeral prayers of his father after learning about his death on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Nure Alam Jiku, 35, son of Jamin Dokandar of Lalannagar area under Daulatpur upazila of the district. Another motorcyclist, Akidul Islam, was seriously injured in the accident.

The accident occurred around 6:30 pm on a road between Bhadalia Swastipur Bazar and Chowrhash Highway Police Station in Sadar upazila.

According to highway police, Jiku had been staying in Magura for business purposes. After receiving the news of his father's death, immediately he started for Kushtia by motorcycle to attend the funeral prayers.

On the way, an unidentified vehicle coming from the opposite direction allegedly hit the motorcycle, causing Jiku and Akidul to fall onto the road. Another vehicle coming from behind ran over Jiku's head, killing him on the spot.

Police later recovered Jiku's body and sent it to Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital for autopsy.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Chowrhash Highway Police Station Mahidul Islam confirmed the matter.
