MYMENSINGH, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - Chairman of the newly formed Mymensingh Development Authority (MDA) Motahar Hossain Talukder today said the authority will approve all building plans within its designated areas.

He said the law establishing the development authority was passed on April 10 this year.

The chairman made the remarks while briefing journalists following a board meeting of the Mymensingh Development Authority held today.

Motahar Hossain said the authority would not simply approve building plans and remain inactive. Its officials, particularly inspection engineers, would visit designated buildings and monitor construction to ensure that the work is carried out according to the approved plans.

Following the enactment of the law, the Ministry of Local Government has sent letters to all city corporations across the country instructing them to transfer relevant files, documents and information to the development authority, he said.

He added that letters have already been sent to the Mymensingh City Corporation by the ministry, the Public Works Department and the development authority itself.

Regarding buildings already constructed or under construction in violation of regulations, the chairman said the law provides for fines for breaches of building construction rules.

"There are also provisions for modifying buildings where necessary," he said.

He further said car parking would be mandatory for commercial buildings. If necessary, commercial spaces would be demolished or modified to create adequate parking facilities, he added.

Earlier, the board meeting of the Mymensingh Development Authority was held with the participation of board members, including MDA Engineer Shafiqul Islam, Supervising Engineer of the Public Works Department, Mymensingh Circle, Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Asaduzzaman Rupo, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Roza Md. Golam Masum Pradhan and Executive Architect of the Department of Architecture Sayka Binte Alam.
