Huge Indian cosmetics seized at Sherpur border

SHERPUR, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a huge consignment of illegally smuggled Indian cosmetics of various brands from Sreebardi border area in the district last night.

Lieutenant Colonel Nurul Azim Bayezid, commander of Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB), confirmed the information in a press release this afternoon.

According to BGB, acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team of BGB-39 conducted an operation in Karnajhora border area of Sreebardi upazila on Wednesday night.

Sensing the presence of the BGB personnel, the smugglers fled the scene, abandoning the goods. The BGB team subsequently seized a large quantity of Indian cosmetics along with an e-rickshaw from the spot.

The seized cosmetics have an estimated market value of around Taka 11.40 lakh.

Talking to BSS, Lt Col Nurul Azim Bayezid said BGB is performing its duties by following a "zero tolerance" policy to prevent the smuggling of drugs and other contraband goods as well as illegal entry through the border.

He said the BGB's strict surveillance and efforts to prevent cross-border smuggling and illegal activities will continue in the future.
