RAJSHAHI, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS) - The foundation stone of an eco-friendly Green Building was laid here today under the Local Government COVID-19 Response and Recovery Project (LGCRRP), with financial assistance from the World Bank.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, as the chief guest, inaugurated the construction work by unveiling a plaque at a function held in front of Shaheed Zia Shishu Park in Ward No. 18 this morning.
The Green Building is being constructed on 3,075.42 square feet of land at an estimated cost of around Tk 4.20 crore. The project is being implemented by the RCC.
The two-storey building will have a five-storey foundation. Shops will be set up on the ground floor, while the second floor will accommodate a hall room, community space and a breastfeeding corner.
According to the RCC Engineering Department, the building will be constructed using environmentally friendly hollow blocks. Solar panels installed on the building will generate electricity for its lighting system.
The building, described as the first of its kind in the northern region, will feature specialised heat-resistant glass. A heat-resistant colour coating will also be applied to the rooftop to help keep the building cool.
To ensure accessibility, toilet and lift facilities will be provided for people with special needs. Vertical gardening will also be introduced on the front section of the building to enhance its environmental sustainability.
RCC Superintending Engineers Khairul Baker and Ahmad Al Moin Parag, Executive Engineers Mahmudur Rahman, Jasim Uddin Arju and ABM Asaduzzaman Sweet, among others, were present at the inauguration.
