RAJSHAHI, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) - Palm seedlings have been planted at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on the initiative of the Rajshahi Divisional Committee of the ICT Employee Society of Bangladesh (ICTESB), a professional organization of ICT graduates and professionals.
To reduce the growing risk of lightning strikes in the country and to protect the climate and biodiversity, the program was inaugurated today, Friday, at 5 PM by planting palm seedlings in the area adjacent to the RUET gate.
The Vice-Chancellor of RUET, Professor Dr. SM Abdur Razzak, was present as the chief guest.
As special guests, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of RUET, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, the Director of Student Welfare, Professor Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarker, and the Executive Director of the Centre for Global Environment and Development, Dr. Md. Abdul Wahab, were present.
The event was presided over by Engr. Junaid Ahmed, President of the Rajshahi Divisional Committee of the ICT Employee Society of Bangladesh.
It was conducted by the Secretary General of ICTESB and Head of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at RUET, Engr. Md. Firoz Ali.
Also present at the time were Assistant Professor Md. Yakub Ali of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) at RUET, Assistant Professor Alok Kumar Pal of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at RUET, Riyad Khan Ratul, Md. Lablu and Afridi Khan of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Forum, along with teachers, students and staff of RUET.
The Centre for Global Environment and Development (CGED) provided overall support to make the palm seedling plantation program a success.
