SATKHIRA, August 28, 2026 (BSS) - A fish trader was killed today when his motorcycle collided head-on with a passenger bus in the Debishahar area under Debhata upazila of the district today.

The deceased, Abdul Alim, 50, was the son of Abdul Jabbar of Mathpara village in Ramanathpur, Debhata upazila of Satkhira district.

According to police, Abdul Alim left Gazierhat Bazar on his motorcycle for home at around 10:30 am. 

When he reached the Debishahar area, his motorcycle collided head-on with a passenger bus of Kazi Enterprise, traveling from Kaliganj to Satkhira. 

Alim was critically injured in the accident. Local residents rescued him and initially took him to the Debhata Upazila Health Complex. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Satkhira for better treatment. He died while undergoing treatment there at 12:20 pm.

Debhata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) H.M. Shaheen said police went to the scene after receiving the information and seized the bus. 

The motorcycle belonging to the deceased has also been kept in police custody. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway, he said.
