KHULNA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - A 10-foot-long python weighing around 11 
kilograms was rescued from a garden in Koyra upazila of Khulna and later 
released into the Sundarbans.

The python was rescued from fencing at the garden of Afzal Sana in the 
Patharkhali Closure area under the jurisdiction of Shakbaria Forest Patrol 
Outpost of the Khulna Range of Sundarbans West Forest Division on Monday 
afternoon.

Forest officials, in cooperation with members of the Community Patrol Group 
(CPG) and Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT), rescued the snake around 3 pm 
under the leadership of Shakbaria Forest Patrol Outpost officer-in-charge 
Shahinur Rahman.

Shahinur Rahman said he received information over the phone that a python, 
believed to have come from the protected Sundarbans, had become trapped in 
the fencing of a garden at Afzal Sana's house in the Patharkhali Closure 
area.

He immediately went to the spot with forest staff and members of the CPG and 
VTRT and rescued the python.

The snake was subsequently released into the protected area of the 
Sundarbans, he added.
