RANGPUR, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested a couple for hacking a young man to death over an extramarital affair in the Haragachh area under Kawnia upazila of Rangpur today.

Police sources said that the couple Munni, 30, and Saju Mia, 35, was arrested for murdering youth Abu Bakkar Siddique, son of Raja Mia of Pallimari Haque Bazar in Haragachh union under Kawnia upazila.

Siddique was killed due to having an extramarital affair with Munni, the wife of Saju Mia of the Haragachh area. 

Siddique left his house after Sunday evening and went to the nearby Lalmonirhat district. 

Around 9 pm, his family members came to know that Siddique had been murdered by slitting his throat and dumped on the roadside. 

The Haragachh police station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police recovered the body from Charchatura village in Haragachh municipal area at 11 pm on Sunday and sent it to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

The deceased's elder brother Tajul Islam has filed a murder case with Haragachh police station in this incident. 

Police arrested Abu Bakkar Siddique's extramarital affair lover Munni along with her husband Saju Mia in this incident. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haragachh police station Ashok Chauhan said that the police arrested Munni and the PBI arrested her husband Saju Mia. 

"Both are currently in PBI custody," he added.
