NARSINGDI, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers  and recovered 224 kilograms of cannabis, a foreign-made pistol and a magazine with  one round of ammunition during a joint operation in Raipura upazila of the district.

Two private cars, a motorcycle and a mobile phone were also seized during the operation, police said.

Raipura Police Station Inspector (Investigation) TM Faridul Alam confirmed the matter to journalists on Monday afternoon.

The joint team conducted the drive on Sunday night at a vehicle garage in Ratanpur area under Uttar Bakhrnagar union of the upazila.

The arrested persons were identified as Maruf Mia, 22, son of Lokman Mia of Uttar Bakhrnagar village; Yasin Mia, 23, son of Mohammad Ali of Ratanpur village; and Dipak Sarkar, 46, son of Jitendra Sarkar of Joynagar area in Shibpur upazila.

Police said another accused, Jamal, along with three to four unidentified persons, however managed to flee during the operation.

Acting on a tip-off that narcotics and firearms had been stored at the garage of fugitive accused Jamal Mia, members of Raipura police station, Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and Rapid Response Force (RRF) jointly conducted the raid.

During the operation, police recovered 224 kilograms of cannabis which contained in 14 sacks. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around TK 44.80 lakh.

A foreign-made pistol, manufactured in the United States, and a magazine containing one round of ammunition were also recovered from a drawer of a table at the garage.

Police also seized two private cars, a motorcycle and a mobile phone from the spot.

According to police, arrested accused Maruf Mia is wanted in several cases, including murder during robbery, snatching, concealing evidence of crime and drug-related offences.

Police also said fugitive accused Jamal has been implicated in three drug cases , filed in 2018.

In this connection, Sub-Inspector (SI) Joy Kumar Pal Titu of Raipura Police Station filed a case with the police station.

Inspector (Investigation) TM Faridul Alam said police recovered a huge quantity of cannabis, a foreign-made pistol and ammunition from the garage of fugitive accused Jamal Mia and arrested three persons.

He said efforts were underway to arrest the remaining fugitive accused.

The three arrested persons have been sent to jail through a court, he added.
