KHULNA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna City Unit BNP has taken several programmes to stand beside people in tackling the dengue outbreak in the city.

As part of the programmes, leaflets will be distributed and awareness campaigns conducted in different wards of the city and spray mosquito-control medicines at different locations on its own initiative.

Besides, a special medical team or service cell has been formed to provide free blood-group testing, blood donation services and medical assistance to dengue patients requiring emergency blood.

The programme was taken in an emergency meeting held at the party office at KD Ghosh Road in the city this  afternoon. 

Khulna city BNP Organising Secretary Shafiqul Alam presided over the meeting, while its General Secretary and BCB Director Shafiqul Alam Tuhin joined the meeting online from South Africa, addressed it. 

Among others, Mir Mohammad Parvez Babul, Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury Miraj, KM Humayun Kabir, Hafizur Rahman Moni, Murshid Kamal, Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Asaduzzaman Asad, Sheikh Imam Hossain, Shariful Islam Tipu, Mizanur Rahman Milton and Zakir Iqbal Bappi spoke at the meeting.
The meeting also appreciated leaders and activists of the city unit of Jubo Dal for taking to the field with their own funds to conduct mosquito-control activities.

 Khulna city BNP leaders have also expressed deep concern over the alarming dengue situation in the city, attributing the worsening outbreak to negligence and inefficiency in mosquito control activities.

The party leaders demanded immediate introduction of emergency health services in Khulna, saying the city has now turned into a “death trap” for dengue patients due to failure to take effective preventive measures in time.

They said at least seven people, including a lawyer and a pregnant woman  died of dengue in Khulna last  week. A large number of people are also undergoing treatment at different hospitals and at home after being infected with the mosquito-borne disease.

The BNP leaders painted a grim picture of the dengue situation, saying Khulna Medical College Hospital, General Hospital and private clinics are facing an acute shortage of beds.

Patients are being forced to receive treatment on dirty floors and verandas of hospitals due to a lack of space in wards, while dengue patients are also being accommodated in overcrowded children’s wards, they said.

Expressing solidarity with demands raised by civil society members and experts, the leaders called for declaring Khulna an “epidemic area” immediately and ensuring free blood tests, platelet supplies and proper treatment facilities at public and private hospitals.

They also demanded intensified cleanliness drives and larvicide spraying in alleys and water bodies in every ward instead of conducting only nominal fogging operations.

Meanwhile, Khulna city BNP will organise a discussion and doa mahfil at its party office on KD Ghosh Road at 11am on Wednesday (Aug 26) marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi (SM).
