Khulna Swecchasebak Dal launches mosquito control drive to curb dengue

KHULNA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna Metropolitan Swecchasebak Dal launched a mosquito control campaign in the city on Sunday to raise public awareness and help prevent the spread of dengue.

The campaign was inaugurated around 4pm at Bihari Colony intersection in Ward No. 26 under the initiative of the Khulna City unit of the organisation, following instructions from Jatiya Sangsad Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul, MP.

Khulna City BNP President and Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona inaugurated the programme as chief guest.

Khulna City Swecchasebak Dal Convener Md Mirajur Rahman Miraj presided over the programme, conducted by Member Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Isti. Khulna City BNP Organising Secretary Sheikh Sadi attended as special guest.

Speaking at the programme, Mona said the rising number of dengue infections in Khulna had become a serious concern and called for collective efforts to tackle the situation.

He urged city residents to remain vigilant, work together to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and prevent further transmission of the disease.

"Creating widespread public awareness is essential to protect city dwellers from dengue," he said, urging political and social organisations to continue activities from their respective positions to safeguard people.

Mona said mosquito control and cleanliness campaigns should be expanded beyond specific areas to all residential localities of the city.

He expressed hope that Khulna City Swecchasebak Dal would continue such public welfare activities as part of broader initiatives by BNP leaders and activists across the country.
