Tourist killed in Sylhet road crash

SYLHET, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - A tourist was killed when a bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway in Haripur area of Sylhet this morning.
 
The deceased was identified as Nusrat Jahan Tasnim, 15, a resident of Dhalaipar area under Jatrabari Police Station in Dhaka. She came to Sylhet with her mother and maternal uncle for a visit to Jaflong.
 
Police said Nusrat was travelling to Jaflong with her uncle Mohammad Ali, elder sister Sumaiya Akter and mother Kulsum Begum in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
 
The accident occurred around 11.30am near the main gate of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited in Haripur when a Sylhet-bound bus collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw, leaving rickshaw passenger Nusrat dead on the spot.
 
Mohammad Ali, Sumaiya Akter and Kulsum Begum sustained serious injuries in the accident. Local people rescued the injured and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
 
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue.
 
Tamabil Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sanjay Chakraborty confirmed the incident and said necessary legal action would be taken over the accident.
