Chattogram ship-breaking yard workers dies after 8 days

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - A worker identified as Md. Alauddin (45), who was critically injured in an accident while working at Baraka Ship-breaking Yard in Sitalpur, Sitakunda succumbed to his injuries today.

He died early this morning at a private hospital in Chattogram city after eight days of battling for life.  The deceased Alauddin was the son of Md. Nurul Islam and a resident of Kumira Union in Sitakunda upazila.

According to locals, Alauddin was working at Baraka Ship-breaking Yard, located at Shitalpur Chowdhury Ghata in Sonaichhari Union, around 8 am last Sunday (August 16). While working on a ship, a heavy iron object accidentally fell from his hand, leaving him critically injured.

Other workers quickly rescued and admitted him to a private hospital in Chattogram city in critical condition. After eight days of treatment there, he died early this morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sitakunda Model Police Station, Mahinul Islam, confirmed the death. He said, "A worker named Alauddin was injured about a week ago while working on an old ship named Baraka. He died early this morning.”
