CHATTOGRAM, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested a youth with counterfeit currency and equipment used to produce fake notes in the city.

The arrested was identified as Md Mohiuddin, 27, son of late Abul Kashem of Gharabhanga area under Narayanhat Union in Bhujpur police station of Chattogram district.

A DB team of the Port-West division conducted a drive in front of Afmi Plaza under Panchlaish police station on August 13 based on intelligence and arrested Mohiuddin with counterfeit notes worth Tk 40,500, said a CMP press release this afternoon.

A case was filed against him at Panchlaish Model Police Station on August 14 under the Special Powers Act.

Later, following a court order, police took Mohiuddin on remand for interrogation. During questioning, he disclosed that equipment used for producing counterfeit currency had been kept at a rented house in West Shahidnagar Tayyabiya Housing Society under Bayezid Bostami police station.

Acting on his information, a DB team conducted a raid at the house around midnight on August 22 and recovered a counterfeit currency printing machine, fake notes worth Tk 18,300 and other equipment used in producing counterfeit money.

CMP said Mohiuddin has been sent to jail after completion of his remand. Efforts are underway to arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the case.
