CHATTOGRAM, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - Lawmaker and Chattogram city BNP convener Ershad Ullah today said the fisheries sector will create fresh jobs, generate more revenue and bolster food and nutritional security if it is developed systematically.

He made the remarks at a programme on the occasion of the National Fisheries Day, organised by Chandgaon Thana Jatiotabadi Matsyajeebi Dal.

The theme of the programme was 'A self-reliant country through silver fisheries, Bangladesh first.' 
 
He urged collective efforts to safeguard the country's fisheries resources, boost production, conserve indigenous fish species and elevate the living standards of fishermen.
 
Md. Zafar, convener of Chandgaon Thana Jatiotabadi Matsyajeebi Dal, presided over the programme. 

Party leaders and government officials were present at the function.
