LALMONIRHAT, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - Two passengers were killed and four others injured after a truck rammed a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Hatibandha Bazar area under Hatibandha upazila of the district this afternoon.

According to locals, the battery-run auto-rickshaw was carrying passengers from Dighirhat area towards Hatibandha Bazar when a truck heading towards Burimari Land Port crashed into it.

Two passengers died on the spot, while four others sustained injuries. Some of the injured were reportedly in critical condition.

Local residents rescued the injured and took them to Hatibandha Upazila Health Complex. 

Hatibandha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafuzzaman Sarker said the identities of the two deceased could not be known immediately.

Police have seized the truck, but its driver and helper fled the scene following the accident.

Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
