RAJSHAHI, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS) - The crowd of visitors is increasing day by day at the Middle Char of the Padma in Rajshahi, which has become known as 'Mini Switzerland' on social media. 

Due to increasing pressure from visitors, life jackets were handed over to boatmen at Malekdagar Ghat; and instructions were given not to take extra passengers and to ensure safe boat journeys. 

Along with that, passenger crossing via the waterway has also increased. 

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has distributed life jackets among the boatmen to ensure safe boat journeys for visitors. 

Today, these life jackets were handed over to the boatmen at Malekdagar Ghat in Ward No. 29 of the city.

Under the direction of RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, a delegation led by Secretary Sohel Rana distributed life jackets among the boatmen. 

At that time, the boatmen were made aware of using life jackets while ferrying passengers, not taking excess passengers, and giving top priority to passenger safety. 

RCC Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam and other officials of the City Corporation were present at the event. 

Boatmen and visitors were happy to receive the life jackets.
 
The boatmen said they have been ferrying passengers by operating boats at this ghat for a long time.

 But before this, they had not seen such an initiative of providing life jackets for the safety of boatmen and passengers.
