COX'S BAZAR, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS) - Four people were killed and five others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a leguna and bus in Chakaria upazila of the district this morning.
The deceased were identified as Jasim Uddin, 25, son of late Matiur Rahman of Segunbagicha area, Md Rafiq, 28, son of late Abul Kashem of West Gajaria area in Eidgaon, Md Shahed, 27, son of late Manzur Alam of Shiopara area in Fulchhari and Md Jiabul Haque, 25, son of Aminul Haque of Natun Office area in Khutakhali.
According to police, the accident took place around 6.30am in front of Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Nayapara area of Khutakhali union when the two vehicles collided head-on, leaving all nine passengers of the leguna were injured.
Local residents rescued the injured and took them to Sadar Hospital and Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital. One of the victims died at Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital, while three others succumbed to their injuries at Sadar Hospital.
The seriously injured were identified as Sarwar, 19, and his father Syed Alam, 50, of Napitkhali in Eidgaon, Jiabul Haque, 40, of Natun Office area in Khutakhali, Delwar Hossain, 35, of Medhakachhapia and Syed Karim, 30, of Kirantali in Teknaf.
Sarwar, Syed Alam, Jiabul Haque and Delwar Hossain are undergoing treatment at Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital, while Syed Karim is receiving treatment at Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital.
Sub-Inspector Md Shamsuzzaman of Malumghat Highway Police Station said the two vehicles involved in the accident had been taken into police custody. The process of handing over the bodies to the families was underway.
