MANIKGANJ, Aug 08, 2026 (BSS)- A discussion on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was held here yesterday (Friday) under the joint auspices of Manikganj District Administration and the Nazrul Institute.

The Executive Director of the Nazrul Institute Latiful Islam Shibli was present in the discussion as the chief guest.

Chaired by Additional Deputy Magistrate Quamrul Hasan the event was addressed, among others, by Abdul Monnaf Khan, President of Nazrul-Promila Parishad and JASAS Manikganj District convening Committee Member Secretary Shamim Biswas.

Latiful Islam Shibli said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman had taken initiative for burial of Nazrul in the premises of Dhaka University central mosque. President Ziaur Rahman and chiefs of the three services carried the coffin of poet Nazrul Islam.

Now the government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is trying to promote literary works of poet Nazrul, he said.

Speakers demanded establishing a memorial of the rebel poet at his wife's paternal land at Teota under Shibabalaya Upazila of the district.

The function included recitation from the poem of Kazi Nazrul and his songs and dances with the participation of renowned Nazrul sangeet artistes.
