CHATTOGRAM, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has instructed concerned authorities to immediately repair the roads that have been damaged by the recent heavy rainfall and subsequent water-logging in the city.
 
He also emphasized the urgent removal of wastes and debris from the islands located along the important roads in the city. On Thursday (August 6), Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain conducted an inspection of key roads and ongoing development projects, traveling from Tiger Pass to Oxygen via South Pahartali Ward No. 1, and then to Patenga Ward No. 41.
 
During this inspection, he provided these directives to the relevant engineers and officials in charge. The Mayor also reviewed the construction of the roundabout at Oxygen Intersection, which serves as one of the city's main entrances, and instructed the executive engineer to expedite the completion of this project.
 
Additionally, he directed the acting CEO and secretary to promptly clear the accumulated waste on the islands of various important roads and to enhance the planned tree planting and beautification efforts in those areas.
 
The Mayor stated that urban development will not be confined to any particular area. 

“CCC is undertaking a systematic approach to ensure that the benefits of development are distributed fairly across all wards. Our objective is to create a clean, green, healthy, safe, and smart Chattogram by executing integrated initiatives across various sectors, including cleanliness, road development, greening, beautification, and enhancement of citizen services,” he added.

The Mayor emphasized that efforts are underway to transform Chattogram into a modern and livable city, focusing not only on infrastructure but also on environmental sustainability. 

Initiatives are being launched to maintain environmental balance through beautification and tree planting, to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change, and to establish a green city for future generations, he said. The Mayor mentioned that necessary directives have been issued for the swift repair of roads that were damaged during the recent heavy rainfall.

“Our priority is to ensure a normal communication system while alleviating the hardships faced by citizens. There will be zero tolerance for negligence or substandard work in development projects,” the Mayor added. 

During the inspection, the Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the CCC Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Conservancy Officer Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, and others were present on the occasion.
