BAGERHAT, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - The body of a 13-year-old girl was recovered from a water-filled gher near her home in Kodalia Dakshinpara of Mollahat upazila in Bagerhat.

The deceased, identified as Jannati, was the daughter of Saudi expatriate Arif Khan. Family members said Jannati had been living with her grandmother in Kodalia Dakshinpara for a long time and studying at a nearby madrasah.

According to the family, Jannati went missing after leaving home at around 7:30am on Thursday. She had reportedly been sleeping beside her grandmother before going outside. 

Family members later began searching for her and found her body floating in a nearby gher. They said she may have gone missing while picking dates in the morning.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Mollahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Ramjanul Haque said the incident was being investigated and that further legal action would be taken after receiving the autopsy report.

Police said the exact cause of the girl's death would be determined after the investigation and autopsy findings.
