KHULNA, August 25, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna’s newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarker Omar Faruk has said crime can be effectively controlled if police, administration, journalists, teachers and people from different professions work together.

“Everything cannot be done by the police alone. We need public support and your cooperation,” he said at an introductory meeting and exchange of views with journalists in Khulna this afternoon.

The new SP said the number of people involved in criminal activities is very small compared to the general population. Therefore, collective efforts by all sections of society could make crime control much easier, he added. 

“We will try to perform our duties with the highest level of professionalism, dedication and honesty,” said Omar Faruk.

Addressing journalists, he urged them to provide police with information about crimes and various problems in the community.

“We want to work based on information received from journalists. This will help protect public interests,” he said.

Regarding the law and order situation in Khulna, the SP said police need to be more proactive in dealing with crimes including drug abuse, extortion, abduction and murder.

 Omar Faruk expressed his determination to make the best possible efforts to improve the law and order situation through police professionalism and cooperation from the public and journalists.

The new SP also spoke about the problem of unprofessional and unauthorised online journalism, saying it was not limited to Khulna but was, in his view, a nationwide issue.

Additional SP (Traffic) Abir Siddiqui Shubhra and Additional SP, A-Circle, Saiful Islam, were present at the meeting.
