Cleanliness campaign launched to prevent dengue in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS)- A cleanliness campaign has been launched in Puthia upazila in the district under the theme 'Prevent Dengue and Plastic Polythene Pollution'. 

The programme was inaugurated today on the premises of the Puthia Upazila Health Complex, organised by the Upazila Administration and Puthia Municipality.
 
The programme was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Rajshahi Kazi Shahidul Islam as the chief guest. 

Present on the occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabur Ali, Puthia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Liakat Salman, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shibu 
Das, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Suchana Monohara, officials from various government departments, public representatives and local dignitaries.
 
In his inaugural speech, Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam said that government initiatives alone are not enough to prevent dengue; consciousparticipation of the general public is also essential in this regard. 

He urged everyone to keep their own houses, yards, roofs and surroundings clean and to take special care to ensure that water does not accumulate anywhere.
 
He further said that plastic and polythene are a major threat to the environment. To protect the environment and build a safe Bangladesh for the next generation, the use of single-use plastic and polythene must be reduced. Ensuring a clean environment is a collective responsibility of all.
 
Speakers at the event emphasized conducting regular cleanliness activities, raising public awareness to prevent dengue, and reducing the use of plastic and polythene.
 
After the inauguration, the guests took part in the cleanliness drive and inspected the cleaning activities carried out on the premises of the Upazila Health Complex.
