KHULNA, June 12, 2026 (BSS)- Three people, including a wireless operator of the Forest Department, were released on Friday after being held captive for three days by forest pirates in the eastern part of the Sundarbans.
According to Forest Department sources, a notorious pirate group abducted Forest Department wireless operator Faridul Islam and two fishermen from the Kalamia area of the Sundarbans on June 9.
Following the incident Forest Department employee, Sharankhola Forest Station Officer and Forest Ranger Khalilur Rahman filed a general diary with Sharankhola Police Station on Thursday.
The pirates reportedly blindfolded the three men and left them in the Ambariya area of the Sundarbans before fleeing.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the East Sundarbans Forest Division, Bagerhat, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury confirmed that wireless operator Faridul returned safely to the Dubla office on Friday morning after remained missing for three days.
The DFO said the Forest Department conducted extensive search operations, including drone surveillance, throughout the three-day period to locate the missing employee.
He added that the pirates did not demand any ransom after learning that Faridul was a Forest Department employee. The trawler owner and his assistant, who were abducted along with him, were also released unharmed.
