NETROKONA, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - A regional dialogue titled "Regional Dialogue on Climate-Resilient Food Systems in Bangladesh: Agroecology Leads the Way" was held at the Netrakona Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium this afternoon.
Organised by development research organisation BARCIK in collaboration with Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung South Asia, the dialogue emphasized the importance of practising agroecology to build climate-resilient food systems.
Netrokona Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Bakiul Bari inaugurated the dialogue as the chief guest.
Speakers at the event said that addressing the current climate crisis requires prioritising local knowledge, conserving biodiversity, reducing the use of chemicals in agriculture, and establishing food systems under the control of farmers.
They added that agroecology is not merely an agricultural method but an effective pathway to ensuring environmental and social justice.
BARCIK Director Sylvanus Lamin delivered the welcome address, while BARCIK Policy and Research Officer Amrin Binte Azad presented a PowerPoint presentation on the challenges and potential of agroecology.
Moderated by BARCIK Regional Coordinator Md. Ohidur Rahman, the dialogue featured an open discussion in which participants shared their views on protecting the agroecology of the haor, hilly and plain regions and on building sustainable, climate-resilient food systems.
In his address, the chief guest said, “Each region of our country has its own geographical diversity and challenges. We must move forward through coordinated efforts to protect our natural resources, including haors, rivers and forests. Sustainable development is not possible without ensuring safe food and protecting the environment.”
Farmers, researchers, development workers, civil society representatives, journalists and students participated in the dialogue.
Among others, Green Coalition Committee members Mirza Hridoy Sagor and Rifat Ahmed Russel, journalist Md. Tanvir Hayat Khan, former general secretary of Netrokona Press Club Mokhlesur Rahman Khan, Assistant Professor Nazmul Kabir Sarker, Principal Anwar Hasan, Syed Maksudul Haque, researcher and writer Ali Ahmad Khan Ayub, and students Md.
