CUMILLA, June 7, 2026 (BSS) - A covered van driver was killed when his vehicle hit a broken-down truck on the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway in Chauddagram upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Kazi Jafar, 35, son of Jahirul Islam of Manikarhat village in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola district.

The accident occurred in Amjader Bazar area under Batisa union when a Chattogram-bound covered van struck the rear of a truck that had been standing on the highway due to a mechanical breakdown, according to police and local sources.

The front portion of the covered van was severely damaged and left the driver critically injured.

Locals rescued Jafar and rushed him to a nearby hospital where the attending physician declared him dead.

Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector Nazim Uddin of Miabazar Highway Police Station said that the police has recovered the body.

"The body will be handed over to the victim's family following the completion of necessary legal procedures," he said.
