Tree plantation programme launched in Gobindaganj

GAIBANDHA, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - A tree plantation programme was launched in Gobindaganj upazila of the district on Thursday at the initiative of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Syeda Yasmin Sultana formally inaugurated the programme by planting saplings of different species along an LGED road at Chadpara under Kamardaha union in the afternoon as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the UNO said the government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has set a target of planting 25 crore saplings across the country over the next five years to protect the environment and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.

To help achieve the target, LGED has started implementing the tree plantation programme in the upazila, she added.

The UNO called upon all concerned to extend wholehearted cooperation to make the programme a success.

LGED Upazila Engineer Mahbubul Haque, officials and staff of the department, public representatives and newsmen, among others, were present at the programme.
