SATKHIRA, May 27, 2026 (BSS) - A woman was killed in a lightning strike around 8:30 am today in the Parshwemari area of Gabura Union under Shyamnagar upazila of the district. 

The deceased, Shahanara Khatun, 38, was the daughter of the late Zaker Ali Molla of Parshwemari village. 

She is survived by a two-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.

Locals said that Shahanara’s mother, Achiya Khatun, had gone early in the morning to catch fish in a nearby enclosure. Seeing dark clouds gathering in the sky, Shahanara went to bring her mother back home. 

While returning from the enclosure with her mother, Shahanara was suddenly struck by lightning and she died on the spot. Her mother, however, remained unharmed.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khaledur Rahman of Shyamnagar Police Station confirmed the incident.
