KHULNA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has installed a modern Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification plant in the Joymonir Ghol area of Mongla upazila in Bagerhat to ensure access to safe drinking water for local residents and schoolchildren.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the RO plant was installed at the premises of Joymonir Ghol Government Primary School today under the government's public welfare programme.

The initiative aims to address the area's long-standing shortage of safe drinking water. The facility will supply purified water to the school's teachers, students and staff, while also serving residents of the surrounding community.

Officials hope the plant will help reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases, improve public health and hygiene, and provide a sustainable solution to the area's drinking water crisis.

Sabbir Alam said the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been carrying out various humanitarian and community welfare activities for people living in coastal and riverine areas and will continue such initiatives in the future.
