BARISHAL, May 27, 2026 (BSS)- Bodies of three persons who went missing after a boat capsize in the Meghna river were recovered today.
The boat was capsized on Monday during a nor’wester storm in Hizla upazila of the district.
Local fishermen and river police recovered the bodies of Nur Islam Jomaddar and his son Ibrahim Jomaddar from the Bhashanchar area of Mehendiganj upazila around 2am today.
Earlier, body of Md. Harun Biswas was recovered from the old Hizla area on Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday afternoon, three people- including the father and son- went missing after an engine-powered boat carrying eight passengers sank near the old Hizla ferry terminal in the Meghna River while locals managed to rescue five other passengers alive.
Local sources said that on Monday afternoon, eight passengers carrying rice distributed under fishermen’s ration cards boarded an engine-powered boat from Aliganj ferry terminal bound for Dhulkhola ferry terminal.
When the boat reached the old Hizla ferry terminal area, it was suddenly caught in a storm and capsized.
Hizla river police inspector Gautam Chandra Mondal said that the bodies have been handed over to their families.
