BAGERHAT, May 27, 2026 (BSS) – The central Eid-ul-Azha congregation of Bagerhat district will be hosted at the historic Shat Gombuj (Sixty Dome) Mosque, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage site.
To accommodate the expectedly large influx of devotees, the district administration has organized three separate prayer sessions.
The first congregation will take place at 7:00am, led by Hafez Maulana Md. Khalid, the Imam of the mosque adjacent to the Khan Jahan (Rah.) Shrine.
The second session is scheduled for 8:00am under the imamate of Maulana Md. Nasir Uddin, the acting Imam and Khatib of the Shat Gombuj Mosque, followed by the third and final assembly at 9:00am, which will be led by Maulana Md. Enamul Haque, the Super of the Baitush Sharaf Orphanage and Madrasa.
Md. Zayed, Custodian of the Bagerhat Department of Archaeology, confirmed that preparations have been finalized to accommodate approximately 6,000 worshippers across the three sessions.
He noted that while about 1,500 devotees can pray inside the historic structure simultaneously, the outer courtyard can host over 500 people per session.
In anticipation of the crowds, the district administration has carried out extensive cleaning operations across the mosque premises and its surroundings. Vibrant, decorative lighting has also been installed throughout the area, creating a uniquely festive atmosphere ahead of the holy occasion.
Meanwhile, most other prominent mosques in the district town and upazila headquarters including the Bagerhat Old Court Central Jame Mosque, Alia Madrasa Jame Mosque and the Khanjahan Ali (Rah.) Mazar-Dargah Jame Mosque will hold their respective Eid prayers at 7:00am.
To mark the festival, the government has instructed all public and private buildings to hoist the national flag alongside festive banners displaying "Eid Mubarak" in both Bengali and Arabic.
Special high-quality meals will be served to residents in government hospitals, jails, children's homes, juvenile development centers and orphanages.
Additionally, local authorities have announced that various tourist attractions across the district will offer free entry to visitors on Eid day.
The District Administration has also issued a directive urging citizens to perform animal sacrifices in accordance with health regulations, preserve animal skins properly and dispose of waste swiftly to maintain a clean environment.
