RAJSHAHI, May 4, 2026 (BSS) – An unusual scene unfolded at a courtyard meeting attended by women in the Nowhata municipal area under Paba upazila of the district.
After hearing complaints and problems from local residents, Rajshahi-3 constituency Member of Parliament Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon took initiative to ensure immediate action.
Upon receiving his phone call, Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Administrator of Nowhata Municipality Ibnul Abedin quickly rushed to the scene.
The incident took place around 10am today in the Bhugroil Bholabari area.
MP Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon attended the courtyard meeting as the chief guest.
Participating women took turns raising various problems in their area, including the absence of solar lights, risks of travelling in darkness at night, fears of accidents, and complaints of irregularities, including in the construction of road drains.
The MP listened attentively and took notes.
At one stage, local resident Ruma Begum said, “We support the BNP, and that’s why solar lights have not been provided to my house or this area in the past. As a result, we have had to travel in darkness for a long time and have faced accidents many times.”
Immediately after hearing the complaint, the MP phoned Paba Upazila UNO Ibnul Abedin and asked him to come to the spot.
On arrival, the UNO listened to the problems in detail and recorded them in his diary.
He assured residents that the issues would be resolved quickly through the relevant departments.
“We have listened to the residents’ problems with importance. The issues raised, including the lack of solar lights and other civic amenities, will be verified and necessary steps will be taken for prompt resolution through the relevant departments. Government services are equal for everyone; political identity is not a consideration here,” he said.
Addressing the meeting, the MP said, “The promises I made to you before the 12th National Parliament Election will be implemented step by step. Our goal is to reach people at their doorsteps, listen to their problems, and ensure quick solutions.”
He added that political identity should not be a barrier to development and that equal opportunities for all citizens would be ensured.
Such coordinated and prompt action by the public representative and the administration was welcomed by locals. Women, in particular, expressed relief at being able to raise their concerns directly.
