PATUAKHALI, Apr 21, 2026 (BSS) - Food assistance was distributed among 1,000 fishermen in Bauphal upazila of the district today to support them during the ongoing fishing ban period.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saleh Ahmed distributed the food items as the chief guest at a function held on the upazila parishad premises this afternoon, with Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer M.M. Parvez in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, the UNO said the initiative has taken part of the Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
He added that the government is providing food support to fishermen affected by the ban imposed in Hilsa sanctuaries from March to April.
Among others, Officer-in-Charge of Bauphal Police Station Sirajul Islam, Livestock Officer Dr Abu Raihan and Upazila Rural Development Officer Basudeb Sarkar were present.
Under the programme, each fisherman's family received two months' worth of essential food items, including 6 kg of flour, 4 kg of pulses, 5 litres of cooking oil, 8 kg of potatoes, 2 kg of sugar and 2 kg of salt.
