CHATTOGRAM, April 19, 2026 (BSS) – The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested a man with a firearm in the Bayezid Bostami area of the port city.

The arrestee has been identified as Md Saiful Islam, 44, a resident of the Hatia area in Noakhali district.

Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Faisal Ahmed shared the information at a press conference held at the media centre of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner’s office in Dampara this afternoon.

According to him, DB members recovered a pistol hidden in Saiful Islam’s waistband during a search at a checkpoint at the Kamarabad intersection area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station this morning. Saiful Islam attempted to flee but was apprehended by the DB team.

Saiful Islam confessed during initial interrogation that he was carrying the weapon for terrorist activities. He has been involved in criminal activities in different parts of the city, including Chalitali, Wajedia, Kuais, Oxygen, Baluchhara, Hamzarbagh and Muradpur under the Bayezid Bostami Police Station area. The CMP said Saiful Islam has five pending cases in various police stations, including charges related to arms, drugs and theft.
