GOPALGANJ, April 19, 2026 (BSS)- A child named Ilma Khanam, 7, has died after 
drowning in a pond in Kashiani upazila of the district.
 
The incident occurred around 1:30pm today in the village of Bara Parulia 
under the Parulia Union of the upazila.

The deceased, Ilma Khanam, was the daughter of Rabiul Sheikh of the village 
and a student of class two at Bara Parulia Government Primary School.

According to family sources, after returning home from school, Ilma went to 
take a bath in a pond adjacent to her house. At that time, she accidentally 
fell into the water body and drowned. 

After extensive searching, family members recovered her body using a net from 
the pond and rushed her to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor 
on duty declared her dead.

Kashiani Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Taj Uddin Ahmed 
confirmed the matter to BSS, saying, "The child Ilma died after drowning in 
the pond. As there was no complaint, the body was handed over to Ilma's 
family after completing legal procedures."
