Pro-BNP lawyers sweep Barishal Bar Association polls

BARISHAL, April 3, 2026 (BSS) – Pro-BNP lawyers have won the Barishal District Bar Association (BDBA) election.The unofficial results were announced around 1:30 am last night by the Election Sub-Committee convener Advocate S.M. Sadikur Rahman Lincoln.

According to the results, Md. Abul Kalam Azad was elected president securing the highest 463 votes, while his nearest rival Md. Salauddin Masum bagged 234 votes.For the vice-president posts, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan Shahin got 447 votes to become first vice-president and Syed Masum Mia Reza was elected second vice-president with 428 votes.

Abul Kalam Azad Emon was elected general secretary with 490 votes, defeating his rival Md. Farid Uddin who obtained 145 votes. Md. Zahidul Islam Panna won the post of treasurer bagging 478 votes. For the joint secretary posts, Md. Tareq Al Imran obtained 461 votes to become first joint secretary while Saidur Rahman Sohel was elected second joint secretary with 402 votes.

Eight BNP candidates were elected as executive members. Although pro-Awami League lawyers did not take part in the election, a total of 22 candidates from BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed panels contested for six posts. 

The voting began at 9 am and continued until 4 pm yesterday (April 2) and a total of 973 voters exercised their franchise this year.
