Tree plantation begins in Rangpur to implement govt's election pledge

RANGPURE, April 1, 2026 (BSS) - The tree plantation programme has been inaugurated in Rangpur district as part of the government's election pledge to plant 250 million trees in five years across the country. 
 
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan inaugurated the programme in the Nabdiganj area on the Rangpur-Barobari-Kurigram Highway as the chief guest today. 
 
The Rangpur district administration and the Roads and Highways Department jointly organized the tree plantation programme. 
 
Briefing reporters after the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner said, "We get oxygen, flowers, fruits, food and various materials from trees to survive. There is also no alternative to trees to maintain the balance of the environment." 
 
For this reason, he emphasized on planting more trees. 
 
Regarding motivating students to plant trees, the Deputy Commissioner said that planting trees is not just planting trees, but also an essential social movement to combat disasters and build a green future. 
 
“If young students are involved in this movement, they will develop a tree-planting-friendly mentality. As a result, students will be motivated to plant trees on their own initiative,” he said.
 
He urged students to plant more trees to protect the environment, biodiversity, ecology and the ecosystems as a whole. 
 
Deputy Conservator of Forests of the Forest Department Md Nurul Islam, Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer Md Moniruzzaman, government officials, teachers-students and journalists were present at the event.
