School Feeding Programme launched for 52,500 primary students in Bhola

BHOLA, March 30, 2026 (BSS) - A major school feeding initiative was officially inaugurated in Bhola to ensure better nutrition for students at 415 government primary schools across the coastal district. 

The programme, which benefits 52,500 students, was launched on March 29, 2026, simultaneously in the upazilas of Daulatkhan, Borhanuddin, Tajumuddin, and Monpura.

Alhaj Hafiz Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Bhola-2 (covering Daulatkhan and Borhanuddin) constituency inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. The event was presided over by the Upazila Executive Officer Monoranjan Barman.

During the event, speakers emphasized that the feeding programme would not only ensure better nutritional support for students but also help improve school attendance and reduce dropout rates. 

The government hopes that this initiative will contribute to the overall improvement of educational outcomes and support the healthy development of children in the region.

The programme, funded by the Government of Bangladesh and implemented by Grameen Jan Unnayan Sangstha (GJUS), is set to provide nutritious meals such as eggs, bananas, bread, and other healthy food items to students. 

A total of 52,727 students in 106 schools of Daulatkhan, 156 in Borhanuddin, 110 in Tajumuddin, and 43 in Monpura are set to benefit from the programme.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Additional Director and Project Coordinator of GJUS, said that this project would benefit not only Bhola but also students in neighboring districts such as Patuakhali, Barguna, Pirojpur, Rajbari, and Gopalganj. 

According to Dr. Rahman, the programme will continue for one year and cover 3,61,735 students across 2,673 institutions.

Zakir Hossain Mohin, Executive Director of GJUS, added that the school feeding programme aims to ensure proper nutrition for students, increase school attendance, and prevent dropouts, all of which are crucial for building a healthy and educated future for the children of these districts.

The school feeding programme is expected to play a significant role in addressing nutritional gaps and supporting the academic success of students in the coastal districts of Bhola and beyond.
