RANGPUR, March 30, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 has arrested a couple for killing a woman after she demanded her money back from village Tunirhat under Sadar police station of Panchagarh on Sunday afternoon. 

The arrested persons are Md Zakir Hossain, 35, and his wife Mst Sheuly Begum, 30, of village Nekbokto Jassipara under Jaldhaka police station of Nilphamari district, a RAB-13 press release said here this noon.
 
The release said that the main accused Md Zakir Hossain, took Taka 17 lakh from Rupvan Akhter, 30, the wife of Sadequl Islam, of the same village, on various occasions by promising to get her a job as a primary school teacher.
 
When the victim Rupvan Akhter did not get the job as promised within the specified time, she demanded the money back from the main accused Md Zakir Hossain.
     
In order not to return the money, the accused Md Zakir Hossain had also threatened to kill the victim on various occasions.
 
In continuation of this, the accused Md Zakir Hossain took the victim on a motorcycle to his rented house in Islambagh Shantidhara area under Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station of Rangpur city, promising to return the money at 12:30 pm on March 1, 2026.
 
But, the main accused Md Zakir Hossain, with his accomplices, strangled the victim to death and hanged the body in a room of his rented house and escaped. 

Later, the victim's brother Md Ataur Rahman of the same village, filed a murder case with Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station on March 2, 2026.
     
On a tip-off, a joint operation team of RAB-13 from Rangpur Sadar and Nilphamari Camp conducted a raid in Tunirhat village of Panchagarh district and arrested the killer couple at 3.10 pm on Sunday.
 
The elite force has handed over the two arrested accused persons to the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station for further legal action, the release added.
