Khulna Bar Association election tomorrow

KHULNA, March 28, 2026 (BSS)- The election of the Khulna District Bar 
Association will be held tomorrow amid enthusiasm among lawyers after several 
postponements.

A total of 48 candidates from four panels are contesting for 14 posts in the 
election, while 1,202 voters are expected to exercise their franchise.

Election Commission Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz said polling will be held from 
8:00am to 3:30pm at the Bar Association auditorium.

The four panels in the race are Jatiyatabadi Ainajibi Forum, Bangladesh 
Lawyers Council, Sotota Ongikaroboddho Ainajibi Parishad and Sammilito 
Parishad.

Under the Jatiyatabadi Ainajibi Forum panel, Molla Mohammad Masum Rashid is 
contesting for president while Md Mohsin Chowdhury and Md Mosharraf Hossain 
for vice-president posts and Molla Mashiur Rahman Nannu is vying for general 
secretary.

From the Bangladesh Lawyers Council panel, Md Abul Khayer is contesting for 
president while Khurshida Sultana and Md Abdul Mannan for vice-presidents and 
Sheikh Zakirul Islam Zakir is contesting for general secretary.

Begum Akter Jahan Ruku is contesting for president from the Sotota 
Ongikaroboddho panel while A A M Mominuzzaman and Sabitri Chakraborty are 
vying for vice-president posts and Nihit Kamit Ghosh is contesting for 
general secretary.

From the Sammilito Parishad panel, Md Bacchu Mia is contesting for president, 
with Ilias Khan and Samar Chandra Mondal for vice-presidents and Md Safiul 
Alam Sujan for general secretary.

The main contest is likely between BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Ainajibi Forum and 
Sammilito Parishad, which is reportedly supported by the activities of the 
Awami League, though the party is not directly participating, according to 
sources.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Lawyers Council panel, backed by Jamaat-e-Islami, 
has intensified last-minute campaigning while the Sotota Ongikaroboddho 
panel, considered a rebel BNP-backed group, also expressed optimism about 
victory.

The election will be conducted by a three-member committee headed by Sheikh 
Abdul Aziz with SM Manjur Kader and SM Mujibur Rahman as members.
