RAJSHAHI, Mar 28, 2026 (BSS) - On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), under the initiative of its Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, launched a train passenger assistance service for the first time.

The program, which ran for nine days before and after Eid, concluded today.

It was formally inaugurated on March 20 at Rajshahi Railway Station to assist homebound train passengers during Eid. From March 20 to March 28, RCC deployed 36 workers daily in three shifts (12 workers per shift) to provide round-the-clock assistance.

RCC personnel worked alongside railway staff to help passengers carry luggage, prevent inconvenience, and ensure overall support at the station.

Passengers expressed satisfaction with the service. Alamgir Hossain, returning to Dhaka after Eid, said, "City Corporation workers helped load our luggage onto the train. It was a great help. This initiative for passenger service is highly commendable."

Another passenger, Sumi Khatun, appreciated the free service and hoped it would continue in the future, noting that it reflected positively on Rajshahi City. "I thank the City Corporation Administrator and those concerned," she said.

Regarding the matter, Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said, "The current government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is a government of the people. We are working not as administrators, but as servants of the people."

He said the train passenger service was introduced experimentally during Eid. "We will consider whether it conflicts with licensed porters at the railway station and, based on public demand, decide on continuing the service in the future," he added.
