CHATTOGRAM, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an accused in a murder case during a raid in the Bitak Bazar area under Pahartali Police Station in the city.
The arrestee, Md Hridoy, 26, is a resident of Mandaritola area in Sitakunda upazila of the district. He is accused in the hacking and beating to death of dredger security guard Salauddin in Sitakunda.
Salauddin, a resident of South Mahmudabad area, worked as a security guard on a dredger of Rising Steel Ship Breaking Limited in the Bay of Bengal.
RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozaffar Hossain said Hridoy was apprehended in a raid on Saturday afternoon.
According to case documents and RAB sources, Salauddin had a dispute with Rifat Hossain and his associates over alleged oil theft from the dredger.
The dispute later turned violent, and Salauddin was beaten and hacked with sharp weapons and iron rods, leaving him critically injured. He was later taken to sea by boat and killed.
His body was recovered from the mud of Koania Canal on February 3 after he had gone missing.
The victim's wife filed a case with Sitakunda Model Police Station, naming seven persons and 8-20 unidentified individuals as accused.
Hridoy has been handed over to Sitakunda Police Station for further legal action. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused and determine the full circumstances of the murder, the RAB official added.
