RANGPUR, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) – The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police in a raid seized five maunds of fake ghee and arrested one person from ‘City Ghee’ factory in the city’s Damodarpur area on Saturday afternoon. 

The arrestee is Md Maidul Islam, 30, son of Hossain Ali, the entrepreneur of making fake ghee, hails from Adam Ganesh’s Khamar area under Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur district. 

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Sanaton Chakraborty held a press conference at the Metropolitan DB office today and informed that Maidul rented a house in the President More area of Damodarpur and set up a fake ghee factory six months ago. 
 
He used to make fake ghee called ‘City Ghee’ using only Dalda, Palm Oil and Artificial Flavours without any dairy products. 
 
“The ghee Maidul produced was delivered to Rangpur and all over the country through courier services. He had increased the production of fake ghee around Ramadan and upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival,” Sanaton Chakraborty said.

On a tip-off, the Metropolitan DB Police conducted a raid in Maidul's factory on Saturday afternoon and arrested him. They also recovered fake ghee, empty cans, sealing machines and other equipment used to produce fake ghee from his possession. 
 
“Necessary legal action is being taken against Maidul. It is being investigated whether anyone else is involved in the production and marketing of fake ghee,” Sanaton Chakraborty said.
