KUSHTIA, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) – Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a gas-carrying lorry and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw on the Kushtia bypass road.
The accident occurred today around 2 pm in front of the Kushtia Store Fuel Pump, according to eyewitnesses.
Officer-in-Charge (Acting) of Kushtia Highway Police Abu Obayed told BSS that the CNG auto-rickshaw was completely crushed in the impact.
Three people died at the spot, while two seriously injured women were taken to the hospital. The two women later succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Ashraful Islam, son of Abdul Malek of Khajangar area in Kushtia Sadar, his wife Shirin Khatun, two wives of late Sirajul Islam, Amena Khatun and Kamela Khatun from Chakrajapur village in Baha Upazila and the CNG driver Md. Zakaria of the same area.
Dr. Hossain Imam, resident doctor at Kushtia General Hospital, confirmed the deaths of critically injured women who passed away during treatment. “The highway police also brought three additional bodies to the hospital,” he said.
Highway police have seized the lorry and CNG auto-rickshaw and have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
