NARSINGDI, Feb 12, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today expressed optimism that a democratic government would be established through the people's mandate in the 13th parliamentary election.
Casting his vote at Charnagardi Government Primary School polling centre in Palash upazila of Narsingdi this morning, the BNP candidate for Narsingdi-2 (Palash) constituency said the people of Bangladesh are highly conscious about democracy and their voting rights.
"People of Bangladesh are aware of their political rights. They believe in democracy and in their right to vote," he told journalists after voting.
Referring to the electoral process, the BNP candidate said a new democratic atmosphere has been created in the country through the election. He alleged that the nation had witnessed 'four farcical and staged elections' in the past, but now voters are able to exercise their franchise in a fair environment.
He said the present opportunity emerged following the fall of autocracy through the student-people's movement in 2024.
Describing himself as a 'political worker, not a leader,' Moyeen Khan said he is engaged in politics inspired by the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
"Politics has no meaning if it does not ensure the welfare of the people," he added.
He expressed hope that a democratic government would be formed in accordance with the people's mandate through today's vote.
Among others, Palash upazila BNP President Abdus Sattar, Joint Secretary Bahauddin Bhuiyan Milton, municipal BNP President Alam Molla and Thana Chhatra Dal General Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Papon were present at the polling centre.
