Young voters turn out in large numbers for change in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, Feb 12, 2026 (BSS) - The 13th National Parliament election has begun in the district with great enthusiasm and a festive atmosphere. 

Voters have flocked to polling stations across the district, standing in long queues since early morning to cast their ballots. Voting began promptly at 7:30 am.

A particularly notable turnout was observed among young voters, many of whom expressed a strong desire for change. The youth are turning out in large numbers, eager to make their voices heard and contribute to the restoration of democracy in the country. At various polling stations, the enthusiasm was palpable, with voters ranging from the elderly to the disabled participating in the process.

Polling stations in the district, including those at Chirka Chandpur Multipurpose High School, Hasa Balika Center, Hasa Fazil Madrasa Center, and Batialpur Government Primary School in the Gobindpur Union of Chandpur 4 (Faridganj) constituency, were abuzz with activity. Hundreds of voters—men and women alike—lined up at the centers, casting their votes in an orderly manner.

Maryam Bibi, a 70-year-old disabled voter, shared her experience, saying, "I voted in a very nice atmosphere."

Imran, a 45-year-old voter, who made the effort to cast his ballot despite facing difficulties, expressed his happiness: "I came from home with a lot of difficulty, but I’m happy to vote correctly."

Elderly voters were also visibly excited about the opportunity to vote. Fazlul Haque, 72, remarked, "I was able to cast my vote after many years. It feels good." Similarly, Masuma Begum, 85, made her way to the polling station with the help of her son and daughter-in-law. "I am very happy to vote," she said.

The presence of first-time voters was also prominent. Sayela, 19, a first-time voter, expressed her joy: "I voted for change, and I’m leaving with a happy heart." Aklima Poppy, 20, also a first-time voter, said, "It feels very good to vote in such a festive atmosphere."

Mahmud Shah, 18, another first-time voter, added, "I came to the polling station to bring back democracy in the country. It feels good to cast my vote in a beautiful and wonderful environment. I am not afraid, and no one influenced me."

Hafez Omar Faruk, 19, also voted for the first time and noted, "There is a wonderful election atmosphere. Everyone has joined the voting festival. I voted for my favorite candidate."

A total of 36 candidates are competing in five constituencies in Chandpur, with political parties such as BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Party, and Islami Andolan Bangladesh fielding their candidates. The number of voters in the district stands at 23,331,190, with 11 transgender voters included. The total number of polling stations in the district is 706.

The excitement in Chandpur on this election day reflects the desire for change, as voters across the demographic spectrum unite in their determination to make their voices heard and influence the future of the nation.
