DINAJPUR, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - A man was killed and another seriously injured in a road accident on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Ghoraghat municipality on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Al-Amin, 40, a resident of Wabda Mor area under Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari district. 

The injured van driver, Aminul Islam, 45, was initially taken to the Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the accident occurred around 11:00 am in front of Islami Bank at Azadmor. A goods-laden truck was parked on the roadside while its driver and helper were repairing a damaged wheel. At that time, a speeding covered van coming from behind crashed into the truck, severely damaging the front portion of the covered van and trapping its driver and helper inside the cabin.

Being informed, fire service personnel and police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty physician declared Al-Amin dead.

Inspector Md. Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Police Station, confirmed the matter. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway, he said.
