RANGPUR, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the fraud mastermind from the Dakshin Dhanghara area under Sadar police station of Gaibandha today for defrauding people by pretending to be members of the Bangladesh Army and RAB.

He was arrested with army items including one pair of army boots, one army bag, one pair of handcuffs, one army ID card, one official seal, one army mobile pass, one army nameplate, two army stickers, fake job-related documents and a mobile phone set with multiple SIM cards.

The detainee is Md Al Amin, 27, son of Md Ashraful Islam of the Narikelbari area of Ward No 4 in Ulipur Municipality, under Ulipur police station of Kurigram district, a RAB-13 press release said here this afternoon.

Citing the complaint filed by victim auto-rickshaw driver Nandalal, the release said that the arrested man told the victim that he was an army member and currently working at the Gaibandha RAB camp while travelling in the victim's auto-rickshaw.

The victim auto-rickshaw driver believed him and requested the fake RAB member to recover his encroached land.

Later, the arrested man asked the auto-rickshaw driver to come to the Gaibandha bus stand through his mobile phone. There, the fraudster Al Amin took Taka 14,000, promising to recover the victim's land.

After receiving the money, the victim did not receive any result and when he called the fraudster Al Amin's mobile phone, the number was disconnected.

Then, the victim inquired at the Gaibandha RAB camp and found that there was no RAB member named Al Amin working there. Later, victim Nandalal filed a fraud case at Gaibandha Sadar police station.

On a tip off, a smart operational team of RAB-13's Gaibandha Camp conducted a raid in the Dakshin Dhanghara area at 01.45 am today and arrested Md Al Amin from the spot.

Initially, the elite force learned that accused Md Al Amin had embezzled money from many people by impersonating himself as an army and RAB member at different times.

He used to save the numbers of various SIM cards he used in his mobile phone with the names of Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Brigadier General and so on, to gain the trust of the victims and give false assurances that the work would be done.

He used to gain the trust of the common people by showing them various equipment used by various forces illegally kept by him to collect money by telling them to solve their various problems.

The arrested accused has been handed over to Gaibandha Sadar police station for further legal action, the release added.
